Each station recreates a situation that actually occurs in the operating room. The numbering matches the shop listing.
STATION 02
Knots under tension
Stretch an elastic band between two hooks. The angles and distances between hooks set the difficulty — you choose them yourself.
STATION 03
One- and two-handed ties
On any hook: throw knot after knot, progressing from thick cord to fine thread wearing double gloves.
STATION 04
Deep knot tying
Inside the cylinder you tie where space is scarce — just like in narrow, deep surgical sites.
STATION 05
Coaptation
Vessel, nerve or tendon: fix two ends between the clamps and join them with minimal tension.
STATION 06
Microsurgical suturing
The smallest structures between the clamps — or stretch latex over the cylinder, incise it and close it again.
Difficulty in five steps
This is how you build up your practice — each step takes away a little tactile feedback, just like the OR does.
Thick cord
Bare hands, e.g. with a shoelace. The movement becomes automatic.
Fine thread
Switch to fishing line or suture material — less feedback, more precision.
Gloves
A pair of examination gloves noticeably reduces fine touch.
Double gloved
A second pair on top — like double gloving in the OR.
Wet
Moisten the gloves. In the OR they are rarely dry either.
Every board made by hand
Cutting, sanding and assembly are done by hand in Vienna. The board grew out of my own preparation for the OR: as many realistic practice scenarios as possible on a small footprint, instead of many single-purpose trainers at a high price. Since every piece is made individually, grain and tone vary — no two boards are alike.

Frequently asked questions
What is included in the suture practice kit?
A solid oak board (28 × 20 × 2 cm) with six built-in training stations: a replaceable silicone suture pad (17 × 12 × 1 cm), six hooks, two clamps, a polyethylene cylinder and one elastic band. Suture material and instruments are not included.
Does it come with needles, instruments or suture material?
No. The board is a training model, not a medical device, and ships without instruments or sutures — you practise with your own needle holder, forceps and suture material. Thick cord or fishing line works well for the first knot-tying steps.
Is the silicone suture pad replaceable?
Yes. The silicone pad can be swapped for a new one once it is used up, and the elastic band can be replaced with any standard hair tie.
Who is the kit for?
Medical students and residents preparing for the OR, as well as skills labs, student societies and suture courses. The six stations cover the whole progression — from first skin sutures and one- and two-handed knots to deep knot tying and microsurgical coaptation.
